The boys often struggle to find motivation when they know that it’s school holidays for the region. We generally take our holidays at other times, so they don’t miss out at all! As the kids are done by early afternoon, they can usually play with the neighbours then. Still, it’s hard to sit there when you know others don’t have to…
Stephen went to pull out his Maths book on Monday morning and I turned to him and said to put it away as we were having an upside down week. He looked at me, a little surprised, and asked what that was. Usually we get all the written work done, Bible and a few other things. We don’t get the extra projects done, all the art work or all the reading done I would like to. So, this week, we started at the bottom of the "list".
On Monday, we worked on a Leonardo da Vinci project and made this flying machine. We took turns constructing different parts of it. We read about Leonardo last month so it was good to follow that up and talk a little more about some of his designs.
On Tuesday, I finished my little knitting project, which was to make a jumper (sweater) for an HIV infected baby in Africa. Several mothers have been doing this project with their daughters. After watching me knit mine, both Stevie & Zac wanted to give it a go. They are now half way through the front side in just a few days. My dear husband was a little shocked that his sons were knitting but I reminded him that they had chosen to do it and I wasn’t pushing them into a life of knitting. If they choose not to do it again after this project, that will be fine too.
Wednesday saw us catching up with friends who are just about to head off for the Netherlands and Thursday (today) I read 6 chapters to them while they knitted -two chapters of Little Britches and four on Martin Luther. It kept getting exciting so we kept reading more.
Our friend still came around to give us our weekly Latin lesson. We still did Bible, they read to me and did their piano practice. They also wrote to one of our sponsor children in Uganda and sent cards to others..
Friday will be craft and scrapbooking day plus soccer practice in the evening.
So even though it has been a different week, a lot has still been going on and I think we have all enjoyed the change of pace.
